"Every Other Birthday" is the first single off their upcoming record 'High End of a Low Town' recorded by Paul Maybury (King Gizzard, Graveyard Train) at A Secret Location Studios in Melbourne.
Musically it’s less ‘country’ and more ‘opening credits to a Molly Ringwald film’ than their past recordings... One of those just-in-time-for-summer type tunes that people ought to be humming on the way to the pool. Lyrically it’s kind of bleak: another birthday and another small town year goes by without realising your unrealisable dream... but that’s what makes it the kind of toe tapper you want to hear over and over again. Nothing wrong with a bit of depressing summer pop, as your grandma used to say.
The song’s video clip was directed by Chris Matthews of Defero Productions (Batpiss, King Parrot) and is a ridiculous homage to the 80’s BMX adventure film. Check it out at www.youtube.com/blackhatrackets
